What is a Web site?
A Web site is a visual promotion tool for your business. It
is like a brochure, a catalog, a store-front and a salesperson rolled into one. By using a
set of interconnected files called "pages," a Web site provides written, visual
and even audio information for your potential clients. Each "page" is like a
typed letter with pictures, sound, or other enhancements that are located on a computer
called a server. People who are "surfing" the Internet connect with your Web
site's server and view your files.
Why do I need a
Web site?
Web sites provide a rich resource for your business, whether
you are small, medium or large. Web sites are effective and efficient, allowing you to
concentrate on other aspects of your business. Many small to mid-sized business use their
Web sites as an "extra employee." Web sites are often used to:
- promote or advertise products and services
- provide information and resources
- allow quick access and communication
- develop leads and contacts
- provide employees a common message board
- disseminate information to clients or employees

questions
What is the
difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web?
The Internet is a generic term used to describe the vast
network of computers that can connect to each other around the world. They connect using
phone lines, wires, fiber optics, microwave transmission, infrared and a host of other
methods. Most often, people connect using phone lines, dedicated Internet lines (know as
ISDN) or across wired networks (Local Area Networks, or LANs). Recently, cable companies
have begun offering interconnections at very high speeds.
The World Wide Web is a term used to describe one component
of the Internet. It is the most accessible to business, has the greatest number of users
("surfers") and is growing dramatically. It uses a format based upon
"domains" which are code names for a set of files (Web site) at a specific
server address.
For example:
www.strongwebs.com means "the Web site
located at server location 123.456.78.90." This code number tells any computer
exactly where to connect in order to read my files. Fortunately, your Internet Service
Provider knows how to find the coded location. All you need to know is the domain name, or
simply click on a link to the domain name and get instantly connect.

questions
What is a domain name?
A domain name is a fancy term for your Internet address. It
is a unique name with a specific server code that allows people to link to your Web site.
Why
do I need to register my domain name?
Domain names must be unique to differentiate between Web site
server addresses. In order to assure uniqueness, a domain registration services was
created as a clearinghouse for domain names. All domain names must be in the registry so
new Web sites do not duplicate domain names and confuse the connecting computers. InterNIC
is the tradename for the official registry. All reputable Web hosts and search engines
require InterNIC registration. Domain names have special "tags" at the end. For
example:
www.internic.net =
World Wide Web, InterNIC, network site
www.strongwebs.com = World Wide Web,
StrongWebs, commercial site
Other tags include:
.edu (educational organization)
.gov (government)

questions
What is a URL?
URL is an acronym for Universal Resource Locator, and is
essentially the same thing as a domain name, except that it includes all Internet address,
such as ftp sites, gopher sites, and others.
What
constitutes a "Web page"?
A Web page is more of a concept than a specific term.
Everyone uses it, but each one may define it differently. For most Web sites, a Web page
is a visual unit with one primary focus, topic or theme. Each different topic has a
separate Web page. For our Web design pricing, we consider one page to be the equivalent
of 60 or fewer single-spaced lines, viewable in one screen without a horizontal
(side-to-side) scroll bar, and possessing a single topic, focus or theme.
What is Web hosting?
Web Hosting is a service that puts your Web site on its
computer network, assigns a uniquely coded computer address, and provides access to anyone
wishing to view your pages. Some Web hosts are do-it-yourself services requiring each
client to post and manage their own Web sites. Businesses with full-time webmasters or
employing personnel with strong Internet skills often use these types of hosts. Strong
Webs is a full service Web host. We handle all the technical aspects of maintaining your
Web site address, allowing you to concentrate on your areas of experience and expertise.

questions
What is a
Secure Server (SSL)?
A Secure Server is a special area of our system that
maintains sensitive information and prevents unwanted access or interception. It encrypts
(secret codes) the data so that only those with the "key" can read the
information. This is especially important if you are selling products or serves
"online" (on the Internet) and collect credit card information from your
customers.
How
do I know I will like my Web site?
At Strong Webs, we take pride in your total satisfaction. We
work very closely with you to determine your needs and preferences, and promise to keep
you informed of everything we do for you. You have final authorization on all Web design,

your Web site, and we never forget that WE WORK FOR YOU.

questions
What if I am dissatisfied with your
service?
We guarantee you will be satisfied or you pay us nothing. Its
that simple. We will work hard to earn your business and to keep your trust. We will work
with you to solve any problem you experience. We promise to provide excellent service that
benefits both you and us. We want to be your Web provider for life, not just for today.
How do your prices
compare to other Web services?
Our Web design pricing is extremely competitive, particularly
with the level of service we provide. You will find people that will create a Web
site for less. There are even more that charge significantly higher prices. Remember
that price is just one of the key factors in selecting a Web designer. The most important
issue is how well we meet your needs.
Our Web marketing prices are among the lowest in the
business. Because we concentrate on marketing for small to mid-sized businesses, we can
focus on the tools that best promote them. We do not have a team of programmers writing
specialized software to track the constantly changing search engine styles. Instead, we
concentrate on successful industry-accepted activities that provide efficient and
effective results for your business.
Our Web hosting prices are also highly competitive. We are a
full-service host, providing you with a level of service far superior to most of our
competitors. We focus on businesses that desire an Internet presence (fancy term for Web
site) but don't have the time or Web knowledge. And, as with many full-service businesses,
our prices are not the lowest. We charge 5% to10% more than many of our self-serve
competitors and believe that we provide you with significantly greater value than the
actual cost difference.
